Just months after Coldplay released their #1 debut album, Parachutes, in England, they were hailed as Band of the Year 2000 in the music press. How did these four college friends become the poster children for a nation's emotions? It may have happened at the speed of light, but it wasn't as easy as it seems.
Coldplay secured a permanent position in Britain's music elite by writing beautiful, simple songs that gently pulled at the heartstrings of a nation. Somewhere in between the confident, vulnerable guitar playing of Jonny Buckland, the melodic bassline of Guy Berryman, thoughtful drumming of Will Champion, and lead Chris Martin's stark, tenor vocals are answers for the soul. Although melancholy stands behind every Coldplay song, each one is also steeped in an unusual and sincere optimism rarely found in English bands. Songs face an inevitable sadness and yearning - a little thing called being real - to get to a better place where the truth held firm in pure emotion is pivotal. Songs like the remorseful "Trouble," with its memorable piano-line, the lonely "Spies" and mega-hit single "Yellow" reveal a hybrid of lyrics that can only be described as joy and remorse, all wrapped into one. "We just want the songs to reflect reality," says Chris.
In doing so, Coldplay may well be the most profound British act to emerge out of the millennium thus far. No one is more surprised by their popularity than the band. Who knew such an austere and tactile musical existence would lead to such greatness? Yet it has.
The band followed this album with Twisted Logic Tour in June 2005 and July 2006, partly included in Glastonbury and the Isle of Wight Festival.
Coldplay won Best Album and Best Single, Brit Awards in February 2006, the group issued a total of six single, "X & Y".
The band spent 2007 playing some select dates in Latin America and record a fourth studio album album "Viva La Vida" or "Death and all his friends" with producer Brian Eno.
"Violet Hill" was the first single from the album released on 28 April 2008 entered the UK charts for the first ten weeks to download.
Lead a "Viva la Vida" was released exclusively on iTunes, and became the band's first British number one on downloads alone.
The album also topped the charts after three days of release, becoming one of the fastest-selling records in UK history, the BBC.
Coldplay went on tour again, their journey is a free concert at Brixton Academy, and a 45-minute live performance on BBC Television Studio. They released the third in a "Lost!" and two Grammy Awards for song of the year for "Viva La Vida" and the four British brand.
In 2010 the band released a single called "Christmas Lights" in December, spent the rest of the year touring and recording the next album.
In early 2011, Martin said the new album on BBC Radio: "This is love, addiction, OCD, escape and working on someone you dislike." Not confirm a release date, but the group announced it would be so many festivals.
Coldplay played at Rock Werchter, T in the Park and headlining at Glastonbury, which voted the best action from the festival on BBC Radio Student.
A single "All of a Teardrop Falls", the title of the third June 2011 while the band has confirmed in August this year, the new album is called "Mylo Xylto" and published on 24 in October.
Coldplay announced three arena dates that will play in December 2011, including concerts in Glasgow and Manchester.
